Dear
Brothers in Christ,
With
the frenetic activities of the holidays approaching,
let us keep our values in perspective. We are about
to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
It is
all to easy to get caught up in the
commercialization of the holiday the secular world
asserts on us. It is time to reflect on our
blessings. A time to give to others in need. A
time for family and traditions.
As a
council we will continue to promote the Keep Christ
in Christmas campaign. We have hung our new
Christmas banner in front of the church, as well as
posters in our parishes buildings, all to promote
the true meaning of our holiday.
During
Advent, let us remember the foremost principle of
our order: charity. There is no better time of the
year to espouse this virtue. You will feel so much
better giving than receiving.
On a more
serious note. As Grand Knight I feel responsible for
the health of our council. Our attendance at
meetings and events has been dismal. We presently
have 190 members. This should equate to
crowded meetings and active participation. The
cold fact is only 10-15% of the membership is
involved. It is the same faces at every
meeting, clean-up, kitchen detail, exemplification,
installation...need I go on?
There will
be numerous activities for our council over the next
few months. Make it your duty to attend and
help at just one. Remember your commitment to the
order and set a example for our newest members.
Let them see commitment and enthusiasm, not
lethargy.
May each of
you and your families have a Merry Christmas and a
blessed New Year.
Vivat Jesus.
Grand Knight
